Rep. Duckworth Cosponsors Legislation to Fund DHS and Keep Americans Safe

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–February 12, 2015.  Yesterday, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) cosponsored H.R. 861, legislation that will fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the end of Fiscal Year 2015. H.R. 861 was introduced by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) and avoids the poison pill amendments that are currently holding up the bill in the Senate. There are only 17 days until the Department of Homeland Security shuts down, closing the bulk of DHS’s management and support of the homeland security infrastructure that was built following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“In light of the recent terrorist attacks in France and the rising risk of terrorism domestically and abroad, now is not the time to threaten the operation of DHS over politics,” said Duckworth. “This is an irresponsible and reckless form of governing, and one that is becoming all too common in Congress. We need to work together to fund DHS and pass immigration reform that allows us to avoid these partisan struggles in the future.”
