Rep. Schakowsky Statement on Jewish American Heritage Month

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–May 21, 2013 – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on Jewish American Heritage Month:

“The month of May is Jewish American Heritage Month where we recognize the many contributions that Jewish Americans have made to the American society and culture.

“I am a first generation Jewish American, the daughter of immigrants from Eastern Europe who came with their parents to Chicago to seek a better life. My grandfather sold fruits and vegetables from his horse-driven wagon in the alleys of Humboldt Park, and saw his four children graduate from college.

“Though neither my grandparents or parents lived to see me sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives, I know they would have been proud of me – as I am of them and my heritage.”
