Rep. Schakowsky Urges Republicans to Act to Avert the Sequester

Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)–February 27, 2013 – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after speaking on the House floor yesterday about the sequester, the across-the-board spending cuts that will take effect at the end of the week:

“Unless we act, at the end of this week, across-the-board, automatic spending cuts will go into effect that will cost hundreds of thousands of jobs, slow our economic growth, and affect the public and private sectors in ways that hurt the American people.

“I joined the Progressive Caucus in introducing The Balancing Act, a bill that replaces the sequester by closing tax loopholes for the wealthiest individuals and corporations, cutting military spending, and creating 1 million jobs by investing in infrastructure and keeping teachers in the classroom. The Balancing Act offers a long-term deficit reduction in a fair and balanced way.”
