Representative Schakowsky’s Statement on 11th Anniversary of September 11th

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–September 11, 2012.  U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a  member of the House Intelligence Committee, released the following statement today to recognize the 11th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

“Today, we remember the thousands of lives tragically lost eleven years ago on September 11th, the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to save others, and the continued impact that attack on our soil has on all of us.

Today as we grieve for those lost, we also pause to extend our gratitude to the first responders, the firefighters and police officers who answered the call of those in need. We remember our brave men and women in the armed forces standing guard here at home and abroad to make sure the tragic, terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 never happen again. This year we can also thank our service members and President Obama for the death of Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the September 11th attacks that caused agony for so many families and friends of lost loved ones and shattered our sense of security. Under the leadership of President Obama, the full resources of this nation were expended to root out those responsible for this atrocity and Al Qaeda has subsequently suffered many defeats.

Though September 11th was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, it will also be remembered as a time when Americans came together to stand as one nation. We must remain vigilant to work against the violence and hatred witnessed eleven years ago and build a world in which people of all beliefs and backgrounds can live in peace.”
