Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)– On Monday, south suburbanite, Robin Kelly, official announced her candidacy for State Treasurer with a pledge to “put the people of Illinois first.”
“Tough times cause for steady leadership and that’s why I am running for the Treasurer of the State of Illinois,” Kelly said.
In a room filled with approximately 75 supporters and family, the State Treasurer’s Chief of Staff spoke of her commitment to serving the people of Illinois, “Hard times like these call for steady proven leadership, especially when it comes to investing and protecting the money of Illinois residents.”
“I know first hand how the twist and turns of life can affect one’s financial health. I will make it my highest priority to wisely invest taxpayers’ money, develop sound fiscal policy, safeguard Illinois’ tax dollars and, without fail, protect the economic future of Illinois.”
Kelly acknowledged State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, and thanked the treasurer’s staff for helping to bring transparency and accountability to the treasurer’s office, strict ethical guidelines, and meaningful legislation.
Kelly said she would “stand up for consumers, families, and invest money wisely; to continue inspiring women to take care of their financial health; to push for financial education for our young children; devote time to make sure the low income families get an education, and insist that financial institutions invest in our communities.”
Acknowledging that her campaign’s finances are not among the wealthiest, Kelly said, “I won’t be the wealthiest candidate in this race, but I will be the people’s candidate. And that’s how it should be-helping people over political gain, smart policies over personal profits.”
Prior to joining as the state treasurer’s office, Kelly served as state representative of the 38th district. She joined the treasurer’s office during her third term. As state representative she sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills protecting victims of consumer fraud, supporting economic development, and improving mass transit. She also supported legislation to protect victims of domestic violence.
