During a speech he gave at a factory near Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald Trump told his audience that during his State of the Union address last week he noticed that many Democrats were not clapping for him “even on positive news.” Trump called the lack of applause “un-American,” and then mimicked someone in the audience who called out “treason.”

Upon hearing these remarks, Iraq War veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) tweeted, “We don’t live in a dictatorship or a monarchy. I swore an oath ― in the military and in the Senate ― to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to mindlessly cater to the whims of Cadet Bone Spurs and clap when he demands I clap.”

Senator Duckworth was a Black Hawk helicopter pilot who received the Purple Heart after she lost both her legs during the war in Iraq when her helicopter was struck by a grenade.

Trump on the other hand received five deferments during Vietnam for education and bone spurs in his ankle.
