CHICAGO, IL –(ENEWSPF)—August 18, 2017.  U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) toured Union Station with representatives from Amtrak and Metra to learn about Union Station’s Master Redevelopment Plan, which will revitalize Union Station by improving its accessibility to streets and Chicago Transit Authority systems, making the station fully ADA-compliant and increasing the station’s capacity.

“For nearly 100 years, Union Station has been a critical transportation center and helped power our economy by connecting people, cities and businesses across the nation. Union Station’s Master Redevelopment Plan ensures the historic station is on track to remain a key transportation and commercial hub for the region and America,” said Duckworth.

Union Station is the third-busiest railroad terminal in the United States, serving over 300 trains per weekday carrying about 120,000 arriving and departing passengers. The Master Redevelopment Plan for Union Station would increase the station’s capacity and ridership, includes comprehensive improvement of ADA accessibility throughout the station, and would create a new terminal to promote economic growth and serve as a civic center.

As a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Duckworth oversees issues related to the nation’s transportation systems and infrastructure projects and works to ensure Illinois receives adequate funding from the federal government to rebuild and modernize state infrastructure and transportation systems.
