Senator Kirk Statement on Senate Passage of Bipartisan Resolution Condemning Rise of Anti-Semitism in Europe

WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–June 4, 2015.  U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) released the following statement today following the passage of S. Res. 87, a bipartisan resolution that encourages U.S. officials to work with the European governments and the European Union to prevent and respond to the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe:

“The United States must work with the European Union and European governments to address the alarming rise of anti-Semitism in Europe and prevent future affronts to basic human rights and dignity. Increasing violence against Jewish individuals in Europe is evidence that our efforts to keep men and women of all faiths safe from violence must never stop.”

Background on S. Res. 87

The Resolution urges U.S. government agencies and officials to work closely with the E.U. and European governments to address anti-Semitism by:

Investigating violence motivated by anti-Semitism

Designating senior-level special envoys to monitor and combat anti-Semitism

Enhancing national strategies to combat and monitor anti-Semitism and hate crimes by training law enforcement and collecting relevant data
