Sexist Ad Run on Behalf of Bruce Rauner

Rauner’s policies are even more offensive to women and their families

CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—October 2, 2014. A set of ads released yesterday on behalf of Bruce Rauner and other Republican candidates for Governor in other states are being criticized for being condescending and insulting to women.

The video compares choosing a candidate for Illinois Governor to selecting a wedding dress.  Despite Rauner’s displays of dishonesty on the campaign trial, the spot inexplicably describes Rauner as a “trusted brand.”

Time Magazinedescribed an almost identical version of the “Say Yes” ad as the “most sexist Republican ad of the year.”

“As distasteful as this ad is, Rauner’s policies are even more offensive to women and their families,” said Maureen Betourney of Illinois Freedom PAC.

On the campaign trial, Rauner claims to not have a social agenda.  Rauner’s non-social agenda includes a pitiful record of hiring and promoting women, the refusal to take a stand in opposition to domestic violence, advocacy for eliminating the minimum wage (of which nearly 6 in 10 minimum wage workers in Illinois are women), and the selection of a running mate who is fiercely opposed to a woman’s right to choose.

“Whether it’s our economic security or our health and safety, Bruce Rauner has proven he stands in opposition to Illinois women,” said Betourney.
