[Trustee Mae] Brandon said she is especially grateful for a $400,000 grant that was used to build the Wetlands Discovery Center, install motion-sensor lighting and solar panels to heat pool water at the Aqua Center, and create a rooftop garden.

“That project helped turn the Aqua Center around,” she said. “We didn’t have the money to do all that was required. As for the wetlands project, we have kids from the city and all across the Chicagoland area visiting and learning about our wetlands — as well as our own kids.”
