Southtown Star: Mayor Lopez Will Be ‘Eternal Ray of Light’

Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)–

From Casey Toner at the Southtown Star:

Friends, family, coworkers and politicians filled the pews of St. Agnes Church in Chicago Heights on Thursday for a funeral service honoring the late mayor Alex Lopez.

The balcony and every aisle were filled, with rows of people 10-deep in some places for the hourlong service.

Danny Lopez, the mayor’s brother, remembered him for his ability to touch the lives of others in a positive way.

"He always encouraged, never discouraged and was optimistic," Danny Lopez said. "Everyone he met, he brought out their ability and potential as a human being. And he will continue to be an eternal ray of light that has touched our family."

On his Facebook page, the reporter added:

Today I witnessed and wrote about the funeral for the mayor of the city I write about. He left behind two daughters. Their anguished cries of "No, daddy, no!" echoed throughout the church walls. So if you’re worrying about the superficial drama in your life, I can assure you that it’s not worth getting upset over. Be t…hankful for what you have, who you love, and the people who love you in return.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the mayor’s children, his family, and the City of Chicago Heights.
