Staffing Company Medix Selects Downtown Chicago for Its Expansion

Recruitment firm to create 50 jobs, spend $2.1 million at new site

CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)–November 13, 2014.  Medix, a professional recruitment firm cited as among the fastest growing private businesses in the country, will expand, moving its headquarters to downtown Chicago and creating 50 jobs at that office within the next two years, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) said today.

“Medix truly is making Illinois central to its nationwide business operation,” DCEO Director Adam Pollet said. “This company knows that to attract top-drawer talent, it’s hard to beat a hub in Illinois, where the workforce quality, central location and educational resources are second to none.”

“Last year, we realized our headquarters needed to be in the right city to scale our business,” said Andrew Limouris, president and CEO of Medix. “After exploring various cities across the country for relocation, we recognized the abundant possibilities to create opportunity in our backyard. Thanks to the collaboration with Governor Quinn and Mayor Emanuel, we are officially moving our headquarters to Chicago.”

Medix provides recruiting services for clients and job candidates in the healthcare, scientific and information technology fields. It plans to hire 50 people and to transfer 45 workers for its new headquarters at 222 S. Riverside Plaza, where it has leased more than 12,000 square feet. It intends to be in the new location by March 2015. The transferees will come from the current headquarters in Lombard, which will continue as a company office with a staff of 45.

In exchange for a hiring commitment in the next two years and a pledge to spend at least $2.1 million on its Chicago expansion, Medix will receive a state incentive package worth an estimated $695,000 over 10 years. Most of the incentive comes as a tax credit available under the state’s Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, program.

Administered by DCEO, EDGE reduces a company’s state income tax liability if it commits to projects that could have occurred outside of Illinois. Medix considered expanding in Nashville, Tenn., instead of Chicago.

The help for the company includes a $20,000 grant for job training.

“The Quinn administration continues to focus on the number one priority of bringing jobs to our state,” Director Pollet said. “This is a big investment by an innovative and dynamic company, and we look forward to its further growth in the years ahead.”

Founded in 2001, Medix has 250 employees at 14 locations around the United States. It has been featured in Inc. magazine’s “Inc. 5000” list of the nation’s fastest growing companies.

Medix’s expansion occurs as Illinois’ economic comeback gains strength, with its unemployment rate falling for seven consecutive months and by the largest pace in the nation over the last 12 months. Illinois now has gained more than 300,000 private sector jobs since February 2010, when the employment market here began to rebound from the recession.
