Volunteers Sought for Park Forest Boards, Commissions

Village has nine volunteer advisory boards and commissions

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Volunteers are being sought for nine advisory boards and commissions that operate in the Village of Park Forest. The groups are the Beautification Awards Committee, the Cable Communications Commission, the Commission on Human Relations, the Economic Development Advisory Group, the Environment Commission, the Parks & Recreation Board, the Plan Commission, the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission, and the Youth Commission.

Mayor John A. Ostenburg appoints individuals to serve on the commissions and the entire Village Board votes to confirm the appointments. Most appointments are for three-year terms. Except for the Economic Development Advisory Group, all commissions must be filled by residents of the Village of Park Forest. Appointments generally run through December 31 of any given year. As such, new appointments generally are made in mid-December or early January.

The mayor also appoints individuals to serve on the Park Forest Housing Authority, the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners, and three review boards: The Fair Housing Review Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Review Board.

"Although we don’t have a large number of vacancies right now, we’re always looking for applications so we have volunteers ready for appointment when an opening comes up," the mayor said. "With more than 100 positions, folks always are moving on and something opens up. I like to have a ready group of volunteers in the waiting so we always have a full roster for each of the boards or commissions."

Residents interested in applying may obtain an application by visting the Village website at villageofparkforest.com, or by calling Sandi Black in the Office of the Village Manager at 708-748-1112.
