Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— State Representatives Lisa Dugan, Al Riley and George Scully joined the Park Forest Board of Trustees at Village Hall on Saturday, December 1st for a Legislative Breakfast. The breakfast served as a forum for Village Officials to convey Park Forest ’s 2008 legislative agenda to legislators.

“We discovered a few years ago that there are legislative issues unique to our community. As such, it is important that we articulate our issues for our legislators so they know our concerns. The face-to-face meetings we have with these lawmakers gives them the chance to ask us questions about our legislative agenda," said Village Manager Tom Mick.

The Village Board’s Legislative Committee deliberates on an annual basis to put together a legislative agenda that alerts legislators to issues of significance for Park Forest on the local, regional and state levels. Items on the agenda included property taxes, school funding reform, sales tax revenue sharing, sales tax increase for municipalities, less intrusion on local revenues, local health programs, public employee pension plans, home rule, public utilities and public transportation. “Our goal behind presenting a legislative agenda and breakfast is to have Park Forest ’s issues on the radar for our legislators,” Mick explained.

Park Forest ’s proactive approach to engaging in dialogue has helped foster better communication and relationships with state legislators, according to Mick. The annual legislative breakfast held in Park Forest has taken place since 2000. Village Officials will follow up this year’s meeting with various trips to Springfield in 2008 to voice the community’s support or opposition to legislative bills being proposed in the General Assembly.
