MACC Holds Business After Hours at Sertoma Centre’s Thrift Store

Matteson, IL—(ENEWSPF)— The Matteson Area Chamber of Commerce held a Business After Hours last Thursday at the Sertoma Center "Good As New" Thrift Store, 4331 W. Lincoln Hwy., Matteson. Members of the Chamber and local elected officials attended the event.

Since 1971, Sertoma Centre has been providing opportunities that empower individuals with disabilities to achieve personal success.

Sertoma Centre recently purchased the retail building where it houses "Good As New" Thrift Store and training centre for individuals with disabilities who are working to secure community employment.

The costs for the building, renovations, and start-up of the training program are listed at $2 million. Sertoma Centre is currently holding a $2 million Building Empowerment Capital Campaign.

Established by the Alsip (now Action), Evergreen, and POW-R Sertoma Clubs in 1971, Sertoma Centre, Inc., with two locations in Alsip, Illinois, and nine residential homes throughout the south and southwest suburbs, is a nationally accredited, not-for-profit agency that provides services to more than 650 individuals with developmental, physical and emotional disabilities, and/or mental illness. These services include vocational evaluation, developmental training, community-based assessments, senior programming, work adjustment training, residential services, janitorial skill training, foster care, job placement services, supported employment, specialized services, school transition services, psychosocial rehabilitation,autism services, and a sheltered workshop program.

Sertoma Centre receives funding for its programs through state agencies, third parties, private pay, United Way and donations from service organizations, businesses and individuals. Contract work in packaging, assembly, and janitorial services also provides significant program support. Services are provided to individuals based on their eligibility and available openings, enabling people with disabilities, regardless of income, to benefit from the Centre’s programs.
