Man Charged With Theft By Deception After eBay Buyer Complains

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Park Forest Police Detectives received a phone call last month from a man in Silver Springs, Maryland, who claimed he made a purchase on eBay from a man in Park Forest, but never received the merchandise he paid for.

The man related that he had purchased a $100 T-Mobile retail telephone card from eBay.  He said he never received the T-Mobile card.  Detectives investigated and went to the home of Stephen E. Brudd, 24, 334 Merrimac, Park Forest. They took him into custody without incident.  Brudd indicated in a statement to police that he purchases $100 T-Mobile retail telephone cards from a friend who knows someone who owns a cellular telephone store.  He said that if he purchases multiple cards he sometimes gets a card for free, and then lists the free card on his eBay account.  When the person wins the bid, he related that he doesn’t send them the card because he would have to pay for shipping, according to police.  He stated that he would e-mail the purchaser of the cards the account number with the activation code so they could access to refill minutes without having to be shipped in actual card.

Brudd stated that the resident from Silver Springs, Maryland, e-mailed him two or three times stating that he did not receive the information, according to police.

Police arrested Mr. Brudd on March 21 and charged him with theft by deception.
