Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– A fast-acting man who may have saved the life of a sleeping neighbor inside a burning home was recognized Monday during the Board Meeting at Village Hall.

Taron Williams, a resident of Calumet City, stood at the podium aside Fire Chief Bob Wilcox as Wilcox detailed to Village Officials the happenings of January 18th, 2008.

In what started as a typical Friday afternoon for Williams quickly changed to anything but that after he casually peered out of a window at his sister’s home on Central Park Avenuein Park Forest.

Williams noticed smoke coming from a neighbor’s second floor window and quickly sprung into action. He ran over to the neighbor’s house and knocked on the door to alert all inside of the fire. When there was no answer, he kicked in the front door, making his way through the home, finding one occupant asleep in a downstairs bedroom. Williams woke the slumbering senior man and helped him out of the burning house. Both escaped without injury as fire crews arrived on the scene to extinguish the blaze.

In recognition of his bravery and altruism, Williams was honored with a commendation award presented by Mayor John Ostenburg. Village Trustees applauded Williams as they stood to shake his hand while he rounded the dais of the Board Room.
