Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Led by a pair of golf state tournament qualifiers, 12 Marian Catholic High School athletes made college commitments on the National Letter of Intent signing day on Wednesday.
Spartan Meg Gilley (Southern Illinois-Carbondale) captured fourth place individually at the IHSA Girls Golf state tourney this year and helped lead Marian to team finishes of second, third and fourth during her career. Ben Nichele ( Butler University ) was an individual IHSA boys golf state qualifier last fall and helped lead Marian to an 11th-place team finish in his junior campaign.
Three football athletes have committed to continue their student-athlete careers at Marian College in Indianapolis , including Mike Berens, Brandon Sherman and Julian Williams. The trio helped lead the Spartans to back-to-back Class 8A playoff berths. Women’s soccer signees include Melanie Hall ( Taylor University ) and Molly Rockrohr (St. Ambrose).
Part of two 21-victory teams and an IHSA Sweet 16 softball qualifier, catcher Kara Walsh will move her talents to Benedictine College . Meanwhile, women’s volleyball all-ESCC performer Jackie Mitrovich has made a commitment to LaSalle University and four-year cross country standout Katie Stillman will stay close to home at St. Xavier University .
Meanwhile, Spartan baseball athletes Kevin Edwards and Mark Scott each made commitments to continue their student-athlete careers at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Thirteen Marian Catholic Class of 2008 members had made college commitments during the previous National Letter of Intent signing periods.
