Men Arrested in Street Clash, One ‘Willing to Die Fighting’

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Police stopped a fight near the intersection of Wildwood and Westgate streets last week. Two men were found with knives and arrested, one telling police he was "willing to die fighting."

Police were dispatched to the area of Wildwood and Westgate on Tuesday, July 15 in reference to a report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, detectives observed a large group of individuals walking eastbound on Westgate at Wildwood. As detectives attempted to speak with the subjects to inquire about the possible fight, they observed another group of subjects walking south on Wildwood from Watseka. Further observation revealed two subjects running in front of the group toward the location of the detectives, according to police. As the subjects approached the location of the detectives, one of the detectives verbally instructed them to stop running. The subjects allegedly refused to stop and were screaming toward the first group, "We’re gonna get you," according to police.

Detective Obremski physically stopped one of the subjects, who was later identified as Jonathan D. Adams, 17, 186 Washington, Park Forest. The second subject allegedly walked past Detective Obremski and was approaching the second group. Detective Obremski then observed the second subject was holding a large knife behind his back, and ordered the subject to the ground where he was taken into custody. He was identified as Marvell Stillwell, 23, 189 Washington St., Park Forest.

Police recovered large knives from both individuals, according to police. A third knife found on the grass was also recovered and placed into evidence.

While at the Park Forest Police Department, detectives spoke with Stillwell and Adams who related that they were walking down a street on their way home and numerous subjects from a residence on Wildwood approached them and started a fight. Eventually the subjects chase them back towards Washington St., according to police. Once on Washington Street, Stillwell and Adams went to Stillwell’s house and allegedly took two large knives from the kitchen, according to police. Stillwell allegedly told police he was planning on finding the subjects and that he was "willing to die fighting."

Stillwell and Adams were arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
