Reston, VA (Vocus) August 18, 2008 — The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is pleased to announce the release of six podcasts from some of the nation’s top principals. The six finalists in the 2009 Metlife/National Association of Secondary School Principals National Middle Level and High School Principal of the Year offer words of wisdom on what makes them successful in their school buildings.
The finalists:

Each has a unique perspective and fresh approach to educating students in an attempt to maximize achievement. Podcast topics include: Collaborative Leadership, Hybrid Schedules, Building Leadership Capacity, Helping Middle Level Students Find the Path to College, Increasing the Graduation Rate and Educating Students in Poverty.

The six finalists were interviewed on Monday, August 11th in Arlington, Virginia by a panel of judges seeking to name one middle level and one high school principal as the National Principals of the Year. Winners in both categories will be announced soon. The search began in early 2008 as each state principal’s association selected its State Principal of the Year. From this pool of state award winners, a panel of judges selected three middle level and three high school finalists.
The six finalists each receive a $1,500 grant. The two national award winners receive an additional grant of $3,500. The grants are used to promote the advancement of learning opportunities for students or other related investments such as capital improvements, the purchase of technology-related equipment, or funding specific educational programs.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals and MetLife are strongly committed to supporting the visions of unsung school leaders.
