Park Forest Baseball Gearing Up for 2009


Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Park Forest Baseball is gearing up for the 2009 season. The registration will begin on February 7 at the Village Hall and will be held from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Three additional registrations will be held as well: February 28th and March 14 from 10AM – 3 p.m. and March 7th from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Birth certificates are required for all players at the time of registration.

The league will once again have two clinics that are run by the Chicago White Sox Training Academy on February 22nd and March 8th. For details on the clinics call Alan Joens at 708-503-1944. Non-league members may also participate.

February 7 also marks the kickoff of the fundraising event for the league. The top three sellers will receive prizes for their efforts. A Nintendo Wii system, an IPod Nano, and a Nintendo DS will be given away, with the top seller getting their choice. The league will be selling candy bars to raise funds for the league.

The season will begin on April 18, 2009, with the Opening Day Parade and Ceremonies being led by team mascot “Jammer” of the Joliet Jackhammers. After the ceremonies the “First Pitch” will be thrown and the games will begin. On May 31st the league will hold its Annual Park Forest All-Star Games, where each player selected to the team will receive a participation medal and MVP awards will be presented. The league will wrap up its regular season play on June 13th and then the Playoffs will begin on June 15 and culminate on June 27, where each division’s champion will be determined.

The end of the year is marked by a picnic for the players and their families on August 8th at the fields. Donated prizes will be drawn for and a homerun contest will be held.

Park Forest Baseball is unique in that it has its own trained umpire staff to call the games. Umpires are currently being recruited for the 2009 season. An informational meeting will be held on February 8th from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. at the baseball building at 54 Westwood Drive in Park Forest. The league offers training, competitive pay, and a flexible schedule. Prior experience is not required.
