Park Forest Police Report – July 21, 2008

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Editor’s Note: We continue our reporting on news from police reports. Besides covering the many stories from around Park Forest that otherwise might go unnoticed, we want to bring more complete coverage of police reports than is reported by other local media.

An arrest does not mean that a person is guilty. All those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty. It is the policy of eNews Park Forest to not remove items in the public record from publication. If your name is listed in the police reports, we will only add information relevant to the final disposition of the case at hand, e.g. "Mr. Smith was subsequently acquitted," or "All charges against Mr. Smith were subsequently dropped." We will do so upon receiving and verifying proof of such disposition.

We will always include some introductory comments before the first item. While everything that follows is a matter of public record, we do not believe it is necessary to have names on page one.

A Ford Thunderbird was reported stolen from the 400 block of Titonka on July 11. The owner reported that he was one month behind on payments to Steger Auto. Upon further investigation, police discovered that the vehicle had been repossessed by Steger Auto. The owner of the business was advised to check in with the Park Forest Police Department prior to repossessing vehicles in the future in order to avoid confusion.

Three juveniles were arrested and charged with theft, $300 and under, when police were dispatched to the Aqua Center, 30 North Orchard, to investigate a report of theft. The juveniles allegedly removed three cell phones from a bag belonging to other individuals.

An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Hemlock on July 11 to investigate a report of a suspicious person. There were no arrests.

An officer was dispatched to the first block of Sauk Trail on July 12 to investigate a report of credit card fraud. A resident reported finding over thirty-four fraudulent charges totaling over $1582.38 on a credit card. The credit card was canceled and the resident was reimbursed for fraudulent charges, according to police.

An officer was dispatched to the 3400 block of Western Avenue on July 12 in reference to a report of criminal damage to property. Police observed scratches all over a vehicle parked in the neighborhood. Police have suspect information.

An officer was dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on July 12 to investigate a reported stolen automobile. The owner reported that she had left the car running in the street for about 10 minutes while she returned to her house. Upon further investigation, police discovered that the owner’s brother had discovered the vehicle parked on the street with the keys in the ignition and drove away. The case was cleared.

Darnell C. Smith, 22, 154 B Lester, Park Forest, was arrested on July 12 and charged with domestic battery when police were dispatched to that address to investigate a report of domestic battery.

A runaway juvenile was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to residence when police were dispatched to the area of Court H-7 on July 13 in reference to a report of loud music. The juvenile was discovered hiding in a vacant unit.

An officer was dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on July 13 to investigate a report of domestic battery. There were no arrests. Police continue to investigate.

Karis L. McCulloh, 19, 607 Superior Ave., Calumet City, was arrested on July 13 and charged with retail theft when police were dispatched to a business in the 100 block of South Orchard to investigate a report of retail theft.

Dana C. Manson, 20, 233 Arrowhead, Park Forest, was arrested on July 13 and charged with one count of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault when police were dispatched to the 200 block of Allegheny to investigate a report of unlawful use of a weapon. Manson allegedly had an argument with some other individuals, walked away from the scene toward the residence, and returned with a rifle tucked in the right side of his pants, according to police. He allegedly began to pull his shirt up and say, "I got some heat for you," and "I got something for you," as he displayed the gun to an individual, according to police. Police recovered a Marlin Firearms .22 LR Glenfield 60 rifle loaded with one .22 caliber round in the chamber.

An Illinois Temporary License Plate #646J578 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Arrowhead St. on July 13.

A bicycle was reported stolen from a bicycle rack on the north side of Rich East High School on July 14. Later that same day, an officer on patrol observed a juvenile pushing the bicycle. When asked if he owned a bike, the juvenile allegedly replied he “took the bike from Rich East." The juvenile was taken into custody and the bicycle was returned. The owner did not wish to sign a complaint.

Police discovered graffiti written with a black marker on the trunk of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Indianwood Blvd. on July 14.

Orlando M. Montgomery, 23, 241 Forest Blvd., Park Forest, was arrested on July 14 and charged with illegally squealing tires, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card, when detectives on patrol in the area of Allegheny St. and Arrowhead Court observed a vehicle traveling southeast on Allegheny St., stopped at an intersection, and proceeded to turn right onto 26th St. without signaling. As the vehicle accelerated while turning, the detectives heard the vehicle’s tires make a loud squealing noise, according to police. And searching the trunk of the vehicle, police discovered a silver “Star Echeverria SA” 9 mm. semi-automatic pistol with a magazine.

An officer was dispatched to the parking lot of a business in the first block of Main Street to investigate a report of the solicitor. There were no arrests. Police have suspect information.

Jasmine C. Ross, 18, 359 Blackhawk St., Park Forest, was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault after police were dispatched to that address to investigate a report of a female subject with a knife in the front lawn of a residence. When police arrived on the scene, they observed Ross yelling at two of her subjects, holding what appeared to be a shiny object in her hand that she placed behind her back out of one officer’s view, according to police. All three subjects were instructed to lie on the ground, and all complied. All three subjects were handcuffed for officer safety and further investigation. As one of the officers assisted Ross to her feet, he observed a 12-inch butcher knife lying on the ground under her stomach, according to police.

Renee Carter, 39, 513 Davis St., Park Forest, Sharita R. Booth, 17, 227 Lee St., Park Forest, and two juveniles were arrested on July 15 and charged with battery when police responded to the 500 block of Davis St. to investigate a report of battery.

A juvenile was arrested on July 16 charged with criminal sexual abuse when police were dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department to investigate a report of criminal sexual abuse. The alleged offender and victim were 15 and 13 years old, respectively. Both said the relationship was consensual, according to police.

A purse was reported stolen from a car in the parking lot at the Park Forest Aqua Center on July 16.

Jack A. Lira, 60, 225 Forest Blvd., Park Forest, was arrested on July 16 and charged with aggravated assault and attempted disorderly conduct when police were dispatched to the area behind 350 Victory in reference to a report of a man with a knife.

A Sony PlayStation 2 game system was reported stolen from a residence in the 300 block of Mohawk on July 16.

The window of a house in the 100 block of Westwood was reported shattered on July 16. Police have suspect information.

The glass of the screen door and the glass of the main door window of a residence in the 200 block of Todd St. were reported shattered on July 17.

A JVC CD player, a black CD case holding approximately 130 burned CDs, and a black-and-white backpack with an orange and black two channel 1200 watt Quantum Amplifier were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of East Rocket Circle on July 17. Police observed that the rear driver’s side window had been shattered.

Police were dispatched to the U-Haul Co., 2210 Western Ave., to investigate a recovered stolen vehicle. An officer on the scene spoke with the manager who reported that when employees arrived at work, they found a 17-foot U-Haul box truck that had been reported stolen from a U-Haul in Carbondale, Illinois, parked in front of the business.

A 50-inch LG plasma television valued at $2800, a 19-inch Dell flat-panel PC Monitor valued at $250, and a Comcast high-definition cable receiver valued at $100 were reported stolen from a residence in the first block at Indianwood Blvd. on July 17.

A purse was reported stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Mohawk on July 17. The alleged offender(s) broke a double pane bedroom window to gain entry, according to police.

A dark blue Schwinn men’s mountain bike was reported stolen from a bike stand at Rich East High School on July 17.

Two Kyocera K-312 flip phones and two wallets with a total of $45 US currency were reported stolen from an unlocked locker at the Park Forest Aqua Center on July 17.

Kendrick L. Nelson, 19, 321 Todd St., Park Forest, DeShawn C. Dandridge, 17, 402 Rutledge, Park Forest, Herbert L. Jackson, 19, 400 Springfield, Park Forest, Henry L. Jimerson, 17, 22200 Kostner, Richton Park, and a juvenile were arrested on July 17 and charged with resisting a peace officer when police responded to the 200 block of Illinois Street in reference to a call of shots fired. The subjects allegedly began running eastbound toward Western Avenue when police ordered them to stop. Police determined that the subjects had no involvement in a shooting, according to police.
