Prairie State College Announces Summer Concerts


Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Summer is alive with the sound of music featuring several concerts by the Prairie State College (PSC) Extreme Big Band, Jazz Pioneers Combo, and Faculty Jazz Ensemble.

The Extreme Big Band and Jazz Pioneers Combo both perform a repertoire of jazz traditions and original compositions that span a broad range of styles. The PSC Faculty Jazz Ensemble features members of the college’s music faculty including Valerie Nicholson on piano, Eugene Vinyard on tenor sax, Phil Crews on drums, and Steve Jacobson on guitar.

The performances are as follows:

  • On Monday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m., the Extreme Big Band and Jazz Pioneers Combo will play a free concert in the college’s Business and Community Education Center auditorium, located at 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights.
  • On Tuesday, July 14 at 7 p.m., the Extreme Big Band and Jazz Pioneers Combo will perform a free outdoor concert at the Matteson Village Hall, located at 4900 Village Commons, Matteson.
  • On Tuesday, July 21 and July 28 at 7 p.m., the PSC Faculty Jazz Ensemble will perform free outdoor concerts at the Matteson Village Hall.
  • On Sunday, July 26 from 2:15 to 3 p.m., the Extreme Big Band and Jazz Pioneers Combo will perform at the “Jazz in the Park for Charity” event at Bicentennial Park, located at 3401 W. 203rd St., Olympia Fields. Tickets are required. Visit www.jazzintheparkforcharity.com for more information.

“We’re very excited about performing for the Matteson concert series as well as the Jazz in the Park for Charity event in July,” said Nicholson. “The bands are really swingin’, and I know the audiences will have a great time!”
