Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Prairie State College (PSC) welcomed the Village of Hazel Crest and the City of Country Club Hills to its final 60thAnniversary Community event to celebrate PSC’s 60 years of educating the community. The college has held monthly celebrations throughout 2018 to recognize the villages and cities in PSC district 515, in an effort to bring community members on campus to learn more about the college and its offerings.

During each of the events, PSC President Dr. Terri L. Winfree has presented “Pioneer Pillar of the Community Awards,” recognizing individuals or groups in the PSC community for their contributions to the college and the community it serves.

During the November celebration, Winfree recognized President/CEO of the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau Jim Garrett as a longtime advocate and ambassador for PSC, specifically noting his inclusion of the college in the regional approach to making the Chicago Southland known, as well as supporting the college’s efforts in legislation. She thanked Garrett for his support of all PSC’s community events, festivals, the Christopher Art Gallery and all conference center initiatives, as well as the PSC Foundation.

Winfree also presented an award to Band Director at Marian Catholic High School Greg Bimm, who she said since becoming director in 1977, has affected the lives of thousands of teens and young adults in the PSC community, some of whom have continued on to enroll in the college programs. She recognized Bimm for his support to the college throughout the years, including participation in the college’s then annual Foodapalooza, which benefitted Respond Now.

The college will continue to recognize the 60th anniversary through the end of the year. For more information or to submit your favorite memory about PSC, visit prairiestate.edu/pscis60.
