Public Works Facing Road Salt Shortage

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— With another winter storm hitting the area, the Park Forest Department of Public Works is dealing with an almost depleted supply of road salt. In the face of a state-wide shortage of salt, the approximate 200 tons Park Forest has left is about enough to cover its roadways twice, according to Village officials.

Consequently, Publics Works crews have been advised to only salt major intersections and certain trouble areas during the current snowfall. Crews will continue to plow all Village streets, but workers are planning to save salt resources for the deep freeze that is likely to follow this storm.

The Village typically starts the season with 1400 tons of road salt.

Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution while driving.
