Rich East Band Shines in Nashville Tennessee

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Rich East Jazz Band and Drumline traveled to Nashville recently to participate in the 2009 Nashville Music Festival. Students and chaperones had an outstanding experience.

The first stop was a tour of Tenneessee State University. Students got first hand experience of university curriculm and student life while visiting this university. Next, students participated in the music festival. Students enjoyed the awards assembly as well as the riverboat cruise along the Cumberland River aboard The General Jackson River Boat. The Rich East Jazz Band received First Place in the AAA division with a rating of superior.

The Rich East Drumline receivedFirst Place in the AAA division with a rating of superior. In addition to these superior ratings, two of our students received individual awards. Freshman Brian Ford received a “Best of The Day Award” for jazz piano and Junior Darel Steppes received a “Best of The Day Award” for marching snare drum.

“We wish to thanks all thosewho continue to support music here at Rich East High School,” said Dwayne Sanders, Director of Bands at Rich East High School. “All of support makes a difference in young boys and girls who later grow up and recall these experiences.”

The band is scheduled to perform at the Orchard Fresh Market Ribbon Cutting this Friday, May 1, at 3:00 p.m.
