University Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Each year an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree granting institutions of higher learning in Illinois is named a Student Laureate of The Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

This year’s Lincoln Laureate from Governors State University is Ricca Louissaint of South Holland. Louissaint exemplifies the characteristics of Lincoln Laureates, who are chosen for their commitment to the principles of democracy and humanity as embodied by Abraham Lincoln. Louissaint was honored for her outstanding contributions to the GSU community and co commitment to helping her fellow students.

In November, Louissant and the other student laureates from around the state participated in a ceremony recognizing their achievement at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. Accompanying her at the ceremony were members of her family and Dr. Terri Christiansen, visiting professor of psychology.

Louissaint is currently studying for her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She is a dedicated peer mentor helping guide fellow students who are working to earn degrees at both community colleges and GSU. In addition to involvement on several student committees, she also serves as a representative from the College of Education on the GSU Student Senate and is President of the Psychology Club.

In addition to her strong involvement at GSU, Louissaint is also the busy mother of three. She is a strong advocate for them and other children in their schools.

After graduation next spring, Louissaint plans to attend law school and pursue a career in law and ultimately secure a judgeship. “I intend to take the time now to reach my goals and have a career in law, based on compassion and fair and balanced judgment,” says Louissaint. “I always want to give back and to advocate for others.” says Louissaint.
