CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—November 4, 2013. Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting “Abstract Impact,” from Monday, Nov. 11 through Thursday, December 12, in the Christopher Art Gallery, located on the PSC main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The exhibit features Midwest artists Zach Mory, Steve Leavitt, Sharon Swidler, Barbara Cooper, Michael Hopkins, Mary Burke, Cristal Tucker, and Shelley Gilchrist. An artists’ reception will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 14.

“The purpose of ‘Abstract Impact’ is to show the wide range of meaningful work that can be characterized as abstraction,” said Beth Shadur, director of the gallery and curator of the exhibit. “The artists work in a wide variety of media as well as styles ranging from the more esoteric and minimal, to the obsessive, to the joyful and exuberant. Their impact derives from the wonderful invention in their use of the formal elements of art and in the ideas used for their suggested content,” she added.

The Christopher Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Visits also can be made by appointment. The gallery will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. For more information about the exhibit or to make an appointment for a visit, call 708-709-3636.
