Matteson, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Two administrators have been approved for the Southland College Prep Charter High School, Dr. Blondean Y. Davis, Southland’s Chief Education Officer, announced.
The Southland’s Board of Directors approved Herald (Chip) Johnson as the school’s assistant principal and Rose Marie Mosley as the director of special education.
For its first year of operation, Southland College Prep will be housed at Huth Middle School where Ron Jones is principal. Dr. Davis serves as the uncompensated CEO and Mr. Johnson will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the high school.
Mr. Johnson served as the assistant principal of District 162’s Matteson Elementary School during the 2009-2010 school year. Previously he was Attendance Director for three years with the Chicago Public Schools. In that apposition he monitored the daily attendance of students throughout the school year and created incentive attendance programs for students and parents. He also attended adjudication hearings for students and helped to develop an Alternative Learning Program that addressed the needs of students who are consistently tardy and/or absent.
Previous assignments include serving as the Music Department Chair and music teacher at John Hope College Prep High School, music teacher at Crane Tech Prep High School, procurement specialist and housing director for Catholic Charities, and elementary school music teacher with the Archdiocese of Chicago. Mr. Johnson also serves as an adjunct music professor at Columbia College of Chicago. Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Roosevelt University, a Master’s degree in education from DePaul University, a Master’s degree in music education from VanderCook Music College, and certificate of advanced studies from National Louis University. He is currently a student in the Doctoral Program in the Education Leadership Program at National Louis University.
Ms. Mosley was a specialized services administrator responsible for supporting twenty two high schools before retiring from the Chicago Public School System in June 2010. She monitored compliance of special education programs, provided professional development for high school special education teachers, led monthly support meetings for case managers, resolved parent complaints, prepared schools for ISBE audits and program completion visits, and addressed various school level special education issues.
Other positions held by Ms. Mosley with the Chicago Public School System include assistant principal at New Millennium School of Health, LRE facilitator, special education teacher for visually impaired students, and chairperson of the special education department at Bowen High School.
Ms. Mosley is a National Board Certified Teacher who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in special education and a Master of Science degree in adult blind rehabilitation from Northern Illinois University. She also graduated from National Louis University with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration.
