Congresswoman Robin Kelly Donates Books to Douglas Taylor Elementary School

ILLINOIS—(ENEWSPF)—August 30, 2013. Congresswoman Robin Kelly today donated nearly 80 books to Douglas Taylor Elementary School on Chicago’s South Side as part of the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program.

“Reading is a learning tool, but it’s also fun. A good book can expose you to people and places and ideas that open your mind, stir your imagination, and touch your heart,” said Congresswoman Kelly, who visited two classrooms at the school.

“Taylor School was the first school to contact my office expressing interest in the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program, so I wanted to personally deliver these books to you,” Kelly told the students.

The donated books ranged from children’s stories and novels to textbooks and non-fiction.

The Library of Congress routinely donates extra copies or surplus books to schools and non-profits through Members of Congress.  Congresswoman Kelly recently contacted schools across the 2nd Congressional District to introduce the program. Several schools replied and those schools will soon receive age-appropriate books directly from the Library of Congress.
