Four opportunities to hear the Peace Corps pioneer on Nov. 12 and 13
CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–November 7, 2013. Nomenee B. Robinson, an international business leader and one of the first volunteers with the Peace Corps, will speak at DePaul University about leadership and reasoned, realistic solutions to building businesses within a challenging global marketplace. There are four opportunities to hear Robinson’s talk: Nov. 12 at 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. on the Lincoln Park Campus, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Room 324/325; and Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. on the Loop Campus, 14 E. Jackson Blvd., Suite 1600. A light meal and beverage will be provided.
Robinson’s talk, “Business, Ethics & Global Leadership,” is presented by DePaul’s School of Public Service and “Vincent on Leadership: The Hay Project.” The lectures are free and open to the public; pre-registration is required online at http://vincentonleadership.org/lecture or via phone at 312-362-5522.
“Nomenee Robinson’s socially responsible leadership, strong business ethics and dedication to service learning exemplify DePaul’s Vincentian values,” said Patricia Bombard, director of The Hay Project, which conducts research that makes Vincentian values and principles explicit and useful for managers and leaders.
Robinson is an executive vice president of strategy and business development for Silverbird Group in Lagos, Nigeria. He has served as a consultant to several international initiatives in Nigeria and was an executive at Kodak for 12 years. He also has experience as a franchise owner with McDonald’s Corporation and as an associate of several nationally renowned corporate and investment firms. Robinson holds an MBA from Harvard University and has served as an adjunct professor at the Lagos Business School and at DePaul University, teaching strategy, international marketing and entrepreneurship.
Only a few months after President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, Robinson joined as a volunteer and traveled to India’s Punjab state. As a trained architect, Robinson served in the Peace Corps for two years. Being immersed in Indian culture deeply influenced Robinson’s life and career, and he went on to become a Peace Corps recruiter to encourage other young Americans to serve.
Established in April 2002, “Vincent on Leadership: The Hay Project” develops awareness of leadership concepts and practices inspired by St. Vincent de Paul, a 17th Century French priest who was known as the Apostle of Charity for his commitment to the poor of France. St. Vincent was a man of strategy and action, as well as a leader and manager. The Hay Project ensures the continuance of the legacy of St. Vincent’s organizational genius and leadership skills in the service of others, which continues to guide the DePaul University community and Vincentian communities worldwide.
