University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– At its Spring Commencement ceremony, Governors State University will award bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees to 500 graduates. Bryce Johnsen joined his fellow graduates as they cross the stage and meet the future.

Johnsen had the additional honor of serving as the voice of the Class of 2010. As student commencement speaker, he shared his observations what it means to earn a degree.

Johnsen earned his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He had already enrolled in the Master of Arts in Communication and Training at GSU. He currently works in the Office of Admission at the university.

In his commencement address, Johnsen focused on the courage it takes to get an education. “When I got to GSU, I realized why education is so important and how it can be the key to success. Many people fear that they don’t have the ability to achieve great things, but they can do anything if they put our minds to it. I learned a lot about myself here and how to be a stronger person. As graduates, we have the confidence to make a difference.”

Prior to attending GSU, Johnsen earned his associates degree from Prairie State College where he served as Student President. While at GSU, Johnsen served as Student Representative to the Board of Trustees and a student mentor in the interdisciplinary studies program. He is currently an elected representative to the GSU Student Senate.

Governors State University Spring Commencement was on Saturday, June 12, at 11 a.m., at the Tinley Park Holiday Inn Select and Convention Center, Tinley Park, Illinois.
