GSU’s College of Business Welcomes New Faculty

University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The College of Business and Public Administration (CPBA) at Governors State University welcomes six new faculty members. They represent a wide range of experience, both in and out of the classroom, and strong backgrounds in research, management, finance, entrepreneurship, and the law.

The new faculty members are: Dr. Carlos Ferran, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems; Dr. Olu Ijose, Assistant Professor of Management; Dr. Susan Ji, Associate Professor of Finance; Brian McKenna, Assistant Professor of Accounting; Dr. Gokce Sargut, Assistant Professor of Management; and Robert Sinclair, Instructor of Management and Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Ellen Foster Curtis, CPBA Dean, said the new faculty members bring proven, unique talents to GSU, and that they will share real-world business knowledge to help their students succeed in today’s competitive global economy.

“Like the rest of our distinguished faculty, these are individuals who both do and teach,” Curtis said. “They excel in the classroom, and will effectively teach our students the skills needed to make a difference in the modern business world. But they are also familiar with the boardroom and know first-hand what it takes to make a successful business work.”

Before joining academia, Dr. Ferran, of Mokena, had a successful career in the oil, software, and financial industries in Venezuela. He has taught at Penn State, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Boston University, where he received his doctoral degree in business administration.

Dr. Ijose, of Naperville, comes to GSU from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, where he was an associate professor of management. Between 1991 and 2003, he worked as a change management consultant for Andersen Consulting and as a competence development adviser for Royal Dutch Shell.

Dr. Ji, of Chicago, received her Ph.D. in finance from Arizona State University and taught at Baruch College before joining GSU. Her research interests are in empirical asset pricing, international finance, and behavioral finance.

Professor McKenna, of Chicago, is a licensed attorney who has practiced law for more than 30 years. He successfully passed the CPA, CFA, and CFP exams. He is a former IRS agent and corporate tax litigator who has tried tax cases and argued tax appeals in federal court.

Dr. Sargut’s research and teaching interests focus on organization theory and strategic management. Before coming to GSU, he taught at the City College of New York. He is an Orland Park resident.

Robert Sinclair, of Monee, has an extensive background in the automotive industry. That experience led to two automotive-related entrepreneurial ventures, one in manufacturing and the other in production and distribution. Since 2001 he has pursued an academic career as a mentor, instructor, and researcher of entrepreneurship.

The College of Business and Public Administration offers three undergraduate and four graduate degree programs with concentrations in marketing, finance, accounting, public administration, management information systems, operations management, human resources management, and international business.
