Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)- eNews Park Forest continues with our series of stellar students from Rich East High School. Mr. Kevin Kredens, the school’s publicity liaison, provides each student a series of the same questions. Meet Laura Banya:

Are you a Park Forest Resident? How long?  Yes. I am a Park Forest resident and have been for seven years. I came to America with my family from Sierra Leone (a country in West Africa on the Atlantic Ocean coast) in 1985.

At Rich East all four years? Yes. I have been a student at Rich East all four years.

What do you like the most about Rich East? I like the positive interaction between students and teachers. I also like the fact that the teachers are always encouraging students to do better.

Favorite classes and why? My favorite class in AP Biology because I like science and my teacher is always encouraging and wants us to learn more every day.

Favorite teachers and why: My favorite coach is Ms.(Christine) Cook {cross country} because she is like a mentor to me. She always has a lot of faith and hope in me and is always encouraging me to do better. I don’t really have one favorite teacher because they are all great teachers to me.

GPA/Class Rank: My grade point average is 3.878 and my class rank is 9th out of 203.

ACT: I received a 17 on my ACT. I may retake it.

Areas met or exceeded on PSAE:  I exceeded in Mathematics and met in reading

AP Exams. I have not yet taken any AP Exams.

What are you listening to on your iPod these days? I listen to all kinds of music as long as it sounds appealing to my ear (Rap, R & B, Pop, Rock, etc.)

What is the last book you have read? The last book I read was Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen.

Favorite TV Shows: My favorite TV shows are Family Guy, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Two and a Half Men

Places that you’d most like to visit: I would love to visit Paris, England, Barcelona (Spain), Brazil and Mexico.  

Activities/Athletics/Clubs participated in/Special awards:  Best Buddies, Cross Country, National Honors Society, Track and Field. Awards: Outstanding junior award, Presidential Fitness Award, Varsity Cross Country honors award, Green and Gold Apple Award.

Clubs, hobbies, community/church. Special volunteering in community: Kiwanis Club, Key Club. Hobbies: running, hanging out with my friends, shopping, going to the movies and working out. Community Service: Volunteer at the annual Park Forest Pancake Breakfast; help with annual Halloween decorations in downtown Park Forest; volunteer to help with table tennis tournaments at Governor’s State University.

College choice/Major: I will be attending the University of Iowa to major in nursing.

Where do you want to be in five years/In ten years? In five years, I plan to have graduated from the university with my nursing degree and working. In 10 years, I would be married with a child, working and earning a master’s degree.
