CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–November 9, 2015. Kimberly Wasserman, an environmental organizer in Chicago’s Little Village and a winner of the international Goldman Environmental Prize, will speak on challenges local communities face in making positive environmental change at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
The organizing and strategy director for the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO), Wasserman led a grassroots initiative that was successful in shutting down coal-fired power plants in her community and received the Goldman prize in 2013 for her efforts.
Since then, she has been leading a grassroots drive aimed at improving access to greenspace and public transportation as well as holding accountable those who are responsible for a number of remaining toxic sites in her Little Village neighborhood.
An LVEJO organizer since 1998, Wasserman will be the first keynote speaker for the new Distinguished Environmental Justice Organizer Series, “Natural Rights: Environmental Justice on the Third Coast” that is sponsored by Roosevelt’s Joseph Loundy Human Rights Project.
