Nursing Assistant Professor Marcia Bulthuis is Awarded Tenure at Prairie State College

Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)–September 19, 2013.  Prairie State College (PSC) recently announced that Assistant Professor Marcia Bulthuis met the college’s expectations for tenure, including commitment to student success, collaboration with her peers, and dedication to the college’s mission and core values. The announcement was made at the August Board of Trustees meeting. The tenure is effective January 2014.

Bulthuis joined the PSC nursing faculty as an adjunct in 2008, teaching students fundamental skills in the nursing laboratory and providing clinical instruction in extended care settings. She began teaching at the college full time in July 2011. Before coming to teach at PSC, she served as an operating room nurse at Hinsdale Hospital. She previously had served as a staff nurse at both Hinsdale and Christ Hospitals.

Bulthuis has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. and a Master of Science in Clinical Nursing from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for Nurses since 1999, and was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses from 1990 to 1998, serving as the Graue Mill Chapter president in 1995.

“PSC only tenures outstanding and exceptional faculty members because of our tenure process,” Hansel said. “Ms. Bulthuis’ tenure committee praised her organization skills, her ability to encourage students to participate in a way that fosters mutual respect, her commitment to nursing education, and her contributions to the department,” she added.

“Teaching is a great privilege, and as I am finding out, a great responsibility,” Bulthuis said.
