CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–March 15, 2016. Ottessa Moshfegh, whose 2015 novel Eileen is a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, will read from her work at 5 p.m. Monday, March 21 in Roosevelt University’s seventh floor Gage Building, 18 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
Moshfegh is one of the nation’s rising young writing talents, having won the Fence Modern Prize in Prose and the Believer Book Award for her 2014 novella, McGlue, and the Paris Review’s Plimpton Prize in 2013 for her short stories “Disgust” and “Bettering Myself.” A collection of her short stories titled Homesick for Another World, featuring new and previously published work, is forthcoming.
“This will be a great opportunity for Roosevelt students and members of Chicago’s literary community to meet Ottessa Moshfegh, who has been an amazing talent even before becoming well known,” said Christian Tebordo, director of Roosevelt’s Creative Writing Program, one of the sponsors of the event.
Lily King of the New York Times credits Moshfegh with writing “beautiful sentences. One after the other they unwind – playful, shocking, wise, morbid, witty, searingly sharp.” Moshfegh’s Eileen has been optioned for a movie by Scott Rudin, producer of The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Social Network. She has also published stories and essays in the New Yorker, Granta and the Paris Review.
Part of Roosevelt’s Spring Reading Series, the event is free and open to the public.
