Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Prairie State College (PSC) recently held ceremonies recognizing the graduates of the Firefighter II and the EMT programs.
“The students who graduated from the fire academy and EMT program have chosen to go into a difficult field during a difficult economy and should be commended for the commitment to public safety that they are making,” said Keith Damm, PSC’s fire science coordinator and training administrator of the Flossmoor Fire Department.
Graduates of the Firefighter II program are Randy Anderson, Chicago Heights Fire Department; Tralee Hale, Richton Park Fire Department; Trevor Harvey, Crete Township Fire Protection District; Kevin Kasperek, Burnham Fire Department; Jarred Lynch, Sauk Village Fire Department; Justin Lynch, Sauk Village Fire Department; Nathan Roberts, So. Chicago Heights Fire Department; Paul Rosenthal, Crete Township Fire Protection District; Douglas Zimmer, Chicago Heights Fire Department; and Dylan Zimmerman, Crete Township Fire Protection District.
“The students are held to a high standard of performance for the entire semester,” said Rich Atwood, coordinator, Firefighter II and Deputy Chief, Sauk Village Fire Department.
Graduates of the EMT program are Roger A. Agpawa, Markham; Jose G. Baeza, Park Forest; Seamus R. Bandy, Homewood; Mayare L. Beauduy, Homewood; Sandra Bibian, Chicago Heights; Samantha G. Brewer, Richton Park, Jamal L. Dancy, Richton Park; Tashea C. Dickens, Dolton; Evan Dinterman, Steger; Alan W. Edrinn, Matteson; Vittoria R. Gazzillo, Steger; Michael W. Hameister, Crete; Justin Hamilton, Crete; Jaselyn Hill, Crete; David John Hoffman, Olympia Fields; Terrell R. Holmes, Country Club Hills; Andrew C. Houston, Thornton; Octavia Reese Huizenga, Park Forest; Kimberly Knox, Chicago Heights; Fred R. Seniw, St John, Ind.; Emilie M. Sluis, Glenwood; Kevin A. Toberman, Crete; and Lauren Ashley Waters, Flossmoor.
“We graduated 24 students, all very new to emergency medicine, and all very eager to help people,” said Nick Biasella, coordinator, EMT. “One of the joys of teaching is watching students grow and watching the enthusiasm that they develop.”
The Firefighter II program prepares students to become municipal firefighters and take the state fire marshal exam. The program follows the standards of the National Fire Protection Association and the Office of the State Fire Marshall.
The EMT program prepares students to take the state certification exam to obtain a license to work on an ambulance crew or in an emergency room.
