CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—April 24, 2018

In recognition of Earth Day 2018, Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting a free community event designed for children ages four to 13. The Saturday, May 12 event is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at the college’s Matteson Area Center (MAC), located at 4821 Southwick Dr. in Matteson.

Attendees will get the opportunity to participate in activities and experiments centered around environmental education, as well as science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). Children also will be able to use their imaginations with crafts and art projects to take home. If weather permits, several of the day’s activities will be held outdoors. Healthy snacks will be provided. The event will highlight the themes from the Kids@College iSTEAM summer program, which is scheduled at the MAC from June 25 through Aug. 9.

The Earth Day celebration represents PSC’s commitment to improve and protect the environment while promoting fiscal and social responsibility.

“Promoting environmental awareness helps to create a brighter future for our community,” said Kelly Lapetino, dean Corporate and Continuing Education. “The event is designed to engage kids and their families in making informed choices and increasing their awareness of the importance of sustainability.”
