PSC Nursing Students Achieve a Perfect Pass Rate on National Exam

Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Every 2010 graduate of Prairie State College’s Nursing program has passed the licensing exam on the first attempt. Graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) in order to obtain a license to practice as a registered nurse.

“This achievement speaks volumes for the quality of PSC’s Nursing program,” said Marie Hansel, dean, health and industrial technology, and director of nursing. “Our nursing program has an excellent reputation with area health-care institutions.”

Graduates of all nursing programs, both two-year associate or four-year bachelor’s degree program, must pass the same licensing exam to become registered nurses. Historically, associate degree graduates achieve scores equal to or higher than the bachelor’s track.

“This is a remarkable achievement for two reasons,” said Adenuga Atewologun, Ph.D., vice president, academic affairs, “The pass rate is based on the first time attempt, and we surpassed both the national pass rate of 87 percent and the State of Illinois pass rate of 88 percent.”
