CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 21, 2013.  Marquita Anderson, a graduate student in journalism at Roosevelt University, is a contestant for Miss Illinois USA because she wants to share her passion and purpose with young ladies and men across the world.

“I want to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds to encourage a society that supports one another across racial boundaries,” she said.  “My goal is to inspire, encourage and positively make a difference.”

Anderson is the recipient of Roosevelt’s John R. McClelland Reporting Award for Journalism Excellence in recognition of her outstanding writing skills.  She also is a production associate at WVON radio in Chicago and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority where she performs community projects with the American Diabetes Association.

She can frequently be seen with a reporting notepad, tripod and camera as her dream is to one day become a television news anchor and producer.

Anderson received her undergraduate degree in Mass Media Communication from Michigan State University where she also studied sociology and dance.  She has 18 years of dance experience and dedicated a large portion of her time at MSU to the Orchesis Dance program.

In her spare time, she volunteers with the MSU Alumni Association Chicago Chapter. This will be her second year working with the committee that hosts Spartyball to help raise scholarships for incoming freshmen. She also is an active member with the National Association of Black Journalists Chicago Chapter.

The three-day event to select the new Miss Illinois USA will be held Nov. 22 to 24 in Chicago.
