CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–December 12, 2013. When Sheree Williams walks across the stage for her master’s degree in early childhood education on Friday, she will become the 85,000 student to graduate from Roosevelt University.
Now in its 68th year, the University will recognize Williams as its 85,000 graduate during a Commencement ceremony being held at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway, Chicago.
Nearly 10 years ago, the University recognized its 65,000 graduate, making Williams the 20,000th student to pass through Roosevelt’s doors for a diploma in the last decade.
“It’s certainly a milestone and amazing to think about all of those graduates who have come before me,” said Williams, 27, who also has received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University in 2012.
A resident of Chicago’s far west-side Galewood neighborhood, Williams has been the recipient of a scholarship to help her pursue her studies and a future career in teaching from her community church, the Family Altar Baptist Church in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, where Williams has been active for most of her life.
“Sheree is an outstanding young woman who has done a lot to help the youth in our church,” said Jennie Petties, who is bishop at the church. “She is intelligent, respectful and is excellent with children.”
Williams originally was a transfer student from a public university who has flourished in her studies, making the dean’s list on more than one occasion at Roosevelt.
I’ve loved Roosevelt so much. The class sizes are small and I’ve gotten to know my professors who really take an interest in their students,” said Williams, who currently teaches young children at her church.
Upon graduation, Williams hopes to become a second-grade teacher. Long-term goals include getting her national certification as a teacher as well as a PhD in education
