Roosevelt University to Seek In-residence Chamber Music Ensemble

Ganz Hall

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 3, 2013.  The Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) at Roosevelt University will launch a unique new Emerging Artist Quartet Residency Program that is designed to attract some of the most promising and talented emerging chamber music ensembles from around the world.

The CCPA Emerging Artist Quartet Residency Program will be a comprehensive professional incubator, offering full-tuition scholarships to members of selected, formed string quartets that are seeking to develop careers as performing ensembles.

Applications are being accepted now for candidates interested in being considered for the program that begins in fall 2014. Members of a selected string quartet will receive two years of training for the Professional Diploma in Chamber Music degree and opportunities as an ensemble to perform in residence at Roosevelt (including at Ganz Hall,  pictured above) as well as in Chicago and beyond. The program will equip the selected ensemble with skills and experience to engage with communities as citizen musicians and to be grounded as a chamber music business entrepreneur.

Hersh

“This program differs from others in that we will offer a nascent ensemble an opportunity for artistic guidance and also will help the ensemble get its business off the ground,” said Stefan Hersh (pictured right), a chamber musician, soloist, orchestral musician, pedagogue and designer of the program that will take a holistic approach in developing chamber groups and their full potential.

“We expect the application process to be competitive and to attract groups that are passionate about building a successful chamber ensemble,” said Hersh, who has performed nationally as a guest artist, teacher and lecturer, both as guest performer and member of  Chicago Chamber Musicians, Callisto Ensemble and the Philadelphia and Chicago String Quartets.

The program’s unique balanced three-pronged approach will include: artistic development through built-in rehearsal time and coaching with world-class artist faculty at CCPA; business development and guidance from successful real-world entrepreneurs, arts management professionals and marketing experts; and community performance experience and training under the guidance of seasoned community engagement professionals and in partnership with diverse community organizations and educational institutions.

“Roosevelt University and the Chicago area will become home for an ensemble in residence that will be marketed through the program and whose career will be jump started with professional guidance and support, including performance opportunities in professional venues both inside and outside of Chicago and at Roosevelt University,” said Hersh.

Auditions for the program will be held during the 2014 spring semester.  Program partners include the International Music Foundation, Roosevelt’s Sharing Notes community engagement program and Darnton & Hersh Fine Violins’ LaunchPad Concert Series.
