Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Sew Much Comfort, an organization which provides adaptive clothing to injured service members, is coming to Grace United Protestant Church.
The organization distributes over 1,200 clothing items and comfort accessories each month to over 100 combat medical units, hospital wards, clinics, and military medical facilities in the United States, Landsthul (Germany) and Combat Medical Units in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Instructor Kimberly Scalzo says the number is growing all the time, "Our clothing is an effort by our organization to provide our service members with symbols of our support and gratitude for their service. It is our hope that they provide a tangible reminder of how grateful every American is for their sacrifice and give them an added measure of comfort as they return to everyday life."
Many service members benefit from the organizations work. Their clothing helps our wounded service members have a normal appearance and gives them more independence as they recover from their injuries, according to the group.
Sew Much Comfort is looking for volunteers. With approximately forty injured service members returning to the States each week, the organization is struggling to find resources to meet these demands while continuing to help service members currently in recovery.
Those interested in putting sewing skills to work to benefit wounded service members are welcome to come to this event.
Grace United Protestant Church has graciously allowed us to use their facilities. There is plenty of sewing space which can accommodate quite a few people. Please sign up as soon as possible, and invite others that may wish to join us for the day. Bring a bag lunch. (If that changes, we will let you know.) The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2008, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Grace United Protestant Church, 266 Somonauk Street, Park Forest. All sewing items will be supplied. Participants are asked to bring their own sewing machines.
