Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— A resident reported that a window to his vehicle was punched and shattered last week. That’s happened before in Park Forest. The difference this time is the owner was inside the vehicle during the alleged offense.
On October 27, around 11:00 p.m., a resident was returning home driving towards his residence when he received a call on his cellular phone. He pulled into Somonauk Park parking lot and stopped the vehicle so he could talk on his cellular phone.
As he was talking on his phone, three subjects approached the vehicle and a male subject, later identified as Anthony G. Holmes, allegedly punched the driver’s side middle window of the truck and shattered the glass. The same subject then allegedly attempted to punch the driver’s door window, which was rolled up, but did not cause any damage to that window. The resident related that after Holmes damaged the side window, Holmes allegedly "threw up a pitchfork," with his hand, indicating that Holmes looked at him and made a gang sign hand gesture directed at the resident.
All three subjects continued walking through the parking lot towards Shabbona Drive. The victim pulled away from the scene after the incident and called the Park Forest Police Department to report the incident. He was advised by the SouthCom dispatch to return to the scene, where he remained until the officers arrived.
Officer Houcek observed the damaged window which was shattered and pieces of the glass around the frame were still in place. The officer also observed shattered glass lying on the segment where the vehicle was parked when the damage occurred. The victim advised that he would be able to identify the offenders once they were located. He stated a desire to pursue complaints against them.
At 11:19 p.m., the Park Forest Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Shawnee to investigate a home invasion. During that investigation, a juvenile was taken into custody. Officer Houcek transported the victim to the juvenile’s location where the victim positively identified the juvenile as having been a member in the group, but not the offender who punched his window. Also during the investigation of the home invasion, Anthony G. Holmes, 20, 1306 Riegel Farm, University Park, was taken into custody. A detective transported the victim to Holmes’ location. The victim positively identified Holmes as having been the offender who punched his window causing the damage.
At the Park Forest Police Department, detectives advised Holmes of his Miranda rights at which time he refused to answer any questions referring to this incident, according to the report. After completing the investigation, Officer Houcek determined that the juvenile was not the offender in this incident and he was subsequently not charged.
Holmes was processed and charged with criminal damage to property, and given a November 16 court date at Markham Courthouse.
