Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Representatives from the Village government, local businesses, organizations and churches officially welcomed new residents to Park Forest last Wednesday.  The event was held August 8, before the summer’s last Main Street Nights event.

Community Relations Coordinator Crescent Muhammad coordinated the dinner, one of her first official events since taking over for Barbara Moore about four weeks ago.  Muhammad was pleased with the turnout, which included about 52 new residents.  Commenting on the variety of organizations and businesses present, she said there was, “a nice cross-representation of what we offer here.”

23 businesses and community organizations participated, including 15 businesses, 3 day care facilities, 2 banks, and 3 tables with Park Forest information.  From the Village, the Fire Department, Library, the Recreation and Parks Department, and the Police PAAC program were represented.

Crescent felt the environment was “warm and welcoming,” and provided a good atmosphere for the new residents who attended.

A post card advertising the event was sent out about 4 weeks prior to all new residents from August 2006.   In addition, postcards were left in lobby of Village Hall, and the sign at the corner of Main & Orchard advertised.

“I want to see what we can do to find a better way to reach out to the new residents,” Muhammad said,  “That way it’s more of an anticipated event.”

Participating businesses and groups included The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area, Park Forest Family Practice, Illinois Montessori Children’s House and IMCH Babyland, eSeMBi, Jacob’s Reasonable Service, Salon Artists Gallery, US Bank, Park Forest Lions Club, Park Forest Public Library, Sandlin Studio, Busy Bees  Daycare, Lumen-Us Publications, Comcast, Roots and Wings, Designed to Go Florist, First Midwest Bank, Clean Sweep, Grace United Protestant Church, Reliable Healthcare, Illinois Theatre Center, eNews Park Forest, Shire Enterprises, Park Forest Recreation and Parks, Park Forest Police Athletic Activity Center, and the Park Forest Fire Department.
