Church Office Ransacked: Park Forest Burglaries Through June 25, 2018

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Among other burglaries reported during the week of June 19 through June 25, a church office was broken into and ransacked, according to Park Forest police. The burglar(s) hit St. Mary’s Church sometime before the offense was discovered the morning of June 24, 2018.

Four vehicles were also reported broken into during this week. All of them had been left unlocked, according to police.

Tools Stolen

A Homelite 14-inch electric chainsaw and a Black and Decker 16-inch orange and black corded hedge trimmer were reported stolen from a residence in the first block of Winslow Street on June 23.

Police were dispatched to that residence at 6:12 PM to investigate a delayed burglary. The residence was in the process of being rehabbed. The owner arrived to discover that the rear sliding glass door was shattered and there was additional damage throughout the interior of the house.

The matter was turned over to the Investigations Division.

Church Office Ransacked

An officer was on patrol on June 24 at 7:45 AM when he was stopped by a man who had just opened a church in the 200 block of Monee Road and discovered that the church office had been burglarized.

The officer observed that the glass door of the main office had been shattered and the inner and outer office had been ransacked, according to police. A door to a storage room had been opened but nothing appeared to be disturbed there. A maintenance closet was also broken into.

Nothing appeared to be missing, according to police.

Unlocked Vehicles Broken Into

Shabbona Drive

A pink and white nurses bag was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 100 block of Shabbona Drive on June 25. The interior of a second vehicle was in disarray, according to police.

The second vehicle had also been left unlocked, according to police.

Nothing was reported missing from the second vehicle. Entry was made to the vehicles by simply opening the driver’s side door of each vehicle, respectively.

Oswego Street

Approximately five dollars in change and some important papers were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 300 block of Oswego Street on June 25.

The owner of the vehicle noticed that the car’s driver’s side door was not closed all the way, a fuse cover was removed and put on the floor, and the engine hood of the car was not closed all the way, according to police.

Oakwood Street

Sometime between midnight and 9 AM on June 25, someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 300 block of Oakwood Street, according to police. Papers from the glove box were discovered scattered throughout the interior of the vehicle. Nothing was reported stolen.

Niagara Street

On June 25 at 2:38 PM, an officer responded to the lobby of the Park Forest Police Department to investigate a delayed report of criminal trespass to a vehicle that occurred in the 300 block of Niagara Street. The owner reported going to his vehicle that morning, discovering that someone had been through the inside of the vehicle.

Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle, which had been left unlocked, according to police.
