Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)– A suspect wanted in connection with the January 2003 murder of a Florida man was arrested today in the southwest suburbs of Chicago announced Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Michael A. Holub, Chief of the LaGrange, Illinois Police Department (LPD).
SHERRY HALLIGAN, age 51, whose last known address was 1050 South 6th Street in LaGrange, Illinois, was arrested earlier today, without incident, by members of the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and officers from the LPD at an apartment in Palos Hills, Illinois. HALLIGAN has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt, coordinated by the Chicago FBI, since April of 2004 after she was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution, which is a felony offense.
According to the complaint, HALLIGAN was charged in Cook County Circuit Court with the January 2003 murder of Dennis Campbell, who was found shot to death in HALLIGAN’s LaGrange residence. After being charged with the murder, HALLIGAN was released on bond. When she failed to appear at an April 2004 court appearance in Bridgeview, a warrant for her arrest was issued. Her vehicle was later found abandoned at Chicago’s Midway airport, leading investigators to believe that she had fled the state.
A tip received from a member of the public, who had seen HALLIGAN’s case in recent news media accounts, led investigators to the Palos Hills location where she was arrested. The search for HALLIGAN has received extensive media coverage, including profiles on “America’s Most Wanted” and locally on “Chicago’s Most Wanted.”
HALLIGAN has been turned over to local authorities and will be appearing in Cook County Circuit Court in Bridgeview at a date and time to be determined.
This case was investigated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which is comprised of FBI special agents, detectives from the Chicago Police Department, and investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police.
