Felony Disorderly Conduct Charge for Man Who Claimed He Was Carjacked

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Park Forest Police charged a man with felony disorderly conduct after he came home from a late night without his car.

According to police, Crook arrived at the Park Forest Police Station on May 22 at 7:45 a.m. Police say he told them that an unknown male black subject took him from his car at gunpoint and drove away with his car when he was stopped at the CN railroad tracks on Western Avenue.

Crook told police that he had left Jimmy’s strip club in Chicago Heights around closing time, 4 a.m. He then drove home to Ash Street where he lives with his sister, according to police. He told police that he does not have a key to the residence and no one answered the door, so he left in his car and was stopped at the railroad tracks because of the train. Suddenly, a subject opened the driver’s door and pulled him out of his car, according to police. That person then got into his car, made a U-turn, and drove south on Western Avenue.

Crook said the next thing he remembered was waking up on the porch of the residence on Ash Street, according to police.

Police say Crook returned to the police station at approximately 4 p.m. and met Corporal Varga, telling him that an unknown subject had used his credit card for a taxi service ride to Gary, Indiana.

On May 23,  Corporal Varga spoke with an employee of the taxi service, who advised him that he received a phone call from a woman stating that she was Crook’s girlfriend, and that Crook used a credit card when he was picked up from a bar in Dyer, Indiana, and given a ride home at night. The taxi service call log listed Crook’s name and address in Park Forest, according to police.

Crook returned to the police station shortly after 11 a.m. where he admitted to police that he fabricated the whole story of someone taking his car from him because he was afraid of the consequences, according to police.

Charles R. Crook, 38, 168 Ash St., Park Forest, was arrested on May 23 and charged with felony disorderly conduct, filing a false police report.
