Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– A man suspected of trying to cash a forged check was nice enough to leave his State ID card with a bank teller after he apparently lost his nerve and left the bank.
Police were dispatched to Chase Bank, 202 Forest Boulevard, on December 2 to investigate a report of a subject allegedly attempting to pass a forged check. Officers arrived and were outside the bank when a man matching the description of the alleged offender walked out the front door of the bank. The subject, identified as Parish L. Summerville, 23, 747 Red Oak, University Park, was detained by Commander Coe for further investigation.
Commander Coe asked Summerville if he had ID on him, and Summerville allegedly stated, "I guess that check was no good."
According to police, an assistant manager at Chase Bank in Park Forest stated that Summerville came into the bank and presented a check and his Illinois State Identification Card to the bank teller. The teller thought the check looked suspicious because it had no watermark, according to police. The check was in the amount of $1837.19. The teller contacted the payee on the check and was informed that the check was a forgery, according to police. At this point, Summerville became increasingly nervous and walked out the front door of the bank, leaving the check and his State ID with the teller.
Interviewed on December 3, Summerville allegedly told police that he has not worked since August and was short on money. A friend of his told him that he knew someone who could make forged checks look "legit." Somerville said he agreed to give the subject half the money after cashing the check, according to police.
Police contacted the Cook County Felony Review and spoke with Assistant States Attorney Natasha Cuyler-Sherman who reviewed the case and approved one charge of forgery.
